IB CP (Career Certificate)

The IB CP (Career-related Certificate Programme)
The Career-related Programme (CP), designed by the International Baccalaureate (IB), is an innovative education programme tailored to students who want to focus on career-related learning in the last two years of high school. It allows students to create an individualized path that leads to either further study or employment after graduation.
By developing academic skills and employment-related competencies, the CP provides the basis for:
  • effective participation in the changing workplace
  • improved mobility and flexibility in employment
  • additional training
  • further education
  • lifelong learning.
If you are participating in ROTC and our Dual Immersion Program, there's the possibility that you could also graduate with an IB Career Certificate in Bilingual Leadership.  Here are the courses you would need to take.
  • ROTC 3 and 4
  • Personal Professional Skills (2 year course)
  • IB Spanish B HL
  • IB Environmental Systems and Societies SL (in Spanish) (2 year course)
Here’s the main reason why the CP works: It combines courses from the International Baccalaureate’s highly regarded Programmes (DP and CP) with an approved career-related study program (CRS) that is not affiliated with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).  The CRS needs to occur in 11th and 12th grade.

At Fallbrook, we are currently partnering with three Career-related Studies.  They include...
  • ROTC 3 and 4 (for a Career Certificate in either Leadership Management or Bilingual Leadership)
  • Film (for a Career Certificate in Filmmaking)
  • Transportation Technology (for a Career Certificate in Transportation Technology)
IB Personal and Professional Skills (Part A and B) is a two year course that emphasizes the development of transferable skills needed to operate successfully in society. The course focuses on critical and ethical thinking, intercultural understanding, and the ability to communicate effectively.

The class will also present students with opportunities to focus on the other IBCP Core Requirements, including the Reflective Project, the Language Extension, and the Service Learning Component.
Language development ensures that all CP students are exposed to a language, other than their mother tongue, that will increase their understanding of the wider world as it relates to their interests within their career related study. To that end, students are encouraged to study a language that suits their needs and background.

50 hours of language development are required and will be managed within your Personal Professional Skills class.
The Reflective Project asks students to identify, analyze, critically discuss and evaluate an ethical issue arising from their career-related studies. The project can be done in different formats, including an essay, a web page, or a short film. This work encourages students to ask questions, take action, and reflect as they develop strong research and communication skills.

The Reflective Project will be developed within your Personal Professional Skills course and will be presented to the public.
Service Learning is based on the principles of service-learning, which emphasize developing local knowledge, civic responsibility, social aptitude, and personal growth.  The goal is for students to take questions related to their career-related study and seek answers through their engagement in service learning.

50 hours of service learning are required.  The management of those service learning opportunities, including reflections and conversations with mentors, will happen in your Personal Professional Skills course.
